Is it bad to listen to classical music when you study?
Tiffany asked the question:
My parents always argue with me on this. They think it’s distrating, but honestly I can’t concertrate if there isn’t classical music playing. Sometimes they tell me to turn it off.
Is listening to classical music bad while studying?

no,actually its really good,it makes your brain focus more ofr some reason.
like its good to have really fast music playing when your running or playing sports because it makes you more active.
so you should play the music when studying.
There has been studies where people have listened to classical music while studing and home work and found out that it stimulates the mind and helps you concentrate on what you are working on more than with out listening to classical music.
In addition to what Forever has said, if it helps you concentrate, it doesn’t matter if it’s rap or rock, or pop. It shouldn’t matter if there are vulgar words unless of course it falls under noise pollution.
The poin tis it helps you concentrate and if you don’t concentrate you won’t understand the work, right?
Give your parents the definitive answer and let them read the research for themselves:
This is a blog that aggregates the research on classical music.
Then turn on that stereo and study!
I love listening to classical music when I’m working, eating, relaxing, etc. And I prefer to have it playing while I go to sleep. Just, something about having the music there is comforting. I’ve known people to only study with either classical, jazz, blues, and (omg) heavy metal, really, really loud.
Me? Learning takes complete void of music or vocals, including television for long term comprehension. But if classical works for you, that’s how your system learns. Go for it. The idea here is to learn, even if you need to listen to fingers on a chalkboard. Whatever works.

It depends entirely on you. For me, I almost always have to have baroque music playing while I study. But if I put on romantic era classical music, I get too distracted. I’ll start singing along, or conducting, or even worse, analyzing chord structures. So to each his own.
Wow. Tell your parents this- (and by the way this is a proven fact) Classical music, rather than being distracting, actually improves your critical thinking skills! In fact, they had two people with about the same skill level take the same test. One of them listening to classical music, and the other, not. You can guess who got the better score- The one that was listening to the music at the time. Although no one is really sure of why this happens, it does. Even if you don’t play the music yourself. It doesn’t necessarily make you smarter or anything (unless you played it), but it does actually help. There’s even a doctor (forgot his name) that listens to classical music while he does his surgery! Oh, and even people that make wine, make it taste better if they make it while listening to classical music. Isn’t that strange???
