What should I put on a classical music mix?

duckiesruleice53194 asked the question:

He likes classical music, but I want it to be personal and thought out not just a bunch of obvious Mozart crap, not that mozart is crap. But it’s obvious, and not unique.
I would like music with words, if that makes sense. And so are there any artists that have classical undertones but more about love?

You can find plenty of choral and solo vocal works from the Renaissance which is about love. Look up some madrigals; most madrigals were about some form of love (courtly love, carnal passion, etc.). I’ll list some of my favorites:

“Sfogava con le stelle” by Monteverdi
“Baci soavi e cari” also by Monteverdi
“Thus Sings My Dearest Jewel” by Weelkes
“Weep, weep mine eyes” by Wilbye

Also, there are some lovely vocal pieces by Mozart. My favorite is “La Partenza (Ecco quel fiero istante)”. “Se lontan, ben mio, tu sei” is very nice, too.
